With social network becoming integral part of our daily life there comes a caution with the ease of communication. Here’s the list of things you shouldn’t be doing on the facebook.
1.Fake Profile Pic
Updating an actor/actress pic as your profile pic is a big NO. A pic of yours on a social network won’t do any harm. If you don’t like anyone zooming into your pic change the privacy of the pic to ‘Only Me’. Keeping a fake profile pic would only raise doubt about authenticity of your profile.
2. Updating Status too Often
Posting status too often would only irritate your friends. ‘Just had breakfast’, ‘Reached my aunts place, its too cold here’, one thing about status like these, nobody gives a shit! So please stop annoying others with your extra ordinary schedule sharing and keep your routine to yourself. The more you post on facebook the less valued you are.
3. Accepting and Sending Friend’s Requests
Your popularity is never defined by the number of people in your friends list. Sending friend’s request to random people would harm your image. Especially if you have mutual friends between you. Accepting request from unknown people is also highly discouraged. Having too many unknown people in your friends list may make your close friends feel left out. If you want to make friends, go out there and meet some real people.
4. Start a Chat in Comments
Often observed people tend to start a conversation in comments of status or photos. Its irritating specially if other people have commented on the status/photo. While you are recklessly exchanging comments, the others would be bombarded with the notifications irrelated to them. Seldom would they ever comment on your photo/status ever again.
5. Sending Game Request to Friends
This is most annoying of all. I personally hate it. Firstly, not everyone is as jobless as you are. Secondly, not everyone want to compete with you in a non-productive game. Please politely press skip when asked for ‘Invite your friends’ or send request to only those who really like playing the game.
6. Don’t get personal, bully or threaten
Praise as many people you like. Everyone loves being talked about. But no one likes being publically disgraced. Talking about your personal life over a social network is a big no. Don’t bully or threaten your friends over the network. While you would be raising fumes and exchanging arguments. Folks on facebook would enjoy the cold war and would love to gossip about it later. You don’t want to be scape goat? Do you?
7. Phone Number and Address
Check if your phone number and address filed is empty or set to ‘Only Me’. Don’t be ignorant to the privacy settings on any social network. Make sure your private information is really private.
8. Posting Weird Photos
You surely love telling people you were drunk last night. But you don’t want to fool yourself by telling everyone how crazy you were. Posting weird photos of yourself and friends would only bring embarrassment. More over tagging your friends in photos may make them fall in trouble with their family or bosses. So make sure you don’t become a spoilsport or troublemaker.
9. Don’t brag
You may be certainly having a posh lifestyle but not everyone wants to know about how your iphone is doing today! Or how much your Ferrari travelled today. On the other hand don’t get bogged down by looking at your friend’s pics and status mentioning how outgoing their life is. Social network gives freedom of expression and most of folks out there exaggerate. Don’t do it. Be humble and truthful. You are only to keep your friends updated not to make them jealous.
Your crush may have just turned into your girlfriend or may be your grand proposal just got accepted. You are on cloud nine. But! You don’t have to make a public announcement about your relationship. Though facebook gives you an option to be ‘In a Relationship’, you really don’t have to tell everyone. Though no harm caused. It’s preferred not to.
These are the few things I have shortlisted. If there is something that you feel we shouldn’t be doing on a social network, and its not being covered under the above points. Please leave a comment. I’ll make sure I add those in the blog post. Your suggestions are valued.
